Kelley Lowe, MS

Nominations & Elections Committee Candidate
Current Title:
Research Scientist
Employer: Abbott Nutrition

Why do you want to serve in this role?

I became involved in the Ohio Valley Section 5 years ago, as a Member-at-Large.  I continued my involvement by serving as treasurer, chair elect, chair (two consecutive years) and immediate past chair. I initially became involved as a way to meet other people in the industry.  As I became more involved, I developed a true passion for everything that IFT embodies. Being able to broaden my role from a regional to a national level would truly be an honor and a privilege. Continuing my service by holding a position on the Nominations & Elections committee would allow me to play a larger role in shaping the future of this organization and help to ensure that IFT continues to be a world class organization that helps advance the science of food through providing education, servicing the community, broadening awareness of topics that are important to the industry and connecting people.

Please describe how your attributes and experiences have prepared you for board service.

I am a thoughtful, well organized, motivated individual who is passionate about the success of IFT. My service to the Ohio Valley Board has helped me further develop my skills for working well in groups with people from all different backgrounds, and with different personality types to achieve a common goal. Having five years of experience in a leadership role within IFT, I have a very good understanding of what challenges and needs regional sections may face, and can use these insights to ensure that candidates are selected who could help strengthen the organization as a whole.

Please provide a short narrative biography of important career and personal accomplishments.

I am a graduate of The Ohio State University, where I received both my B.S. in Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering and my M.S. in Food Science.  I have worked at Abbott Nutrition in Columbus, Ohio for the past 13 years.  I am currently a Research Scientist in the Global Product Research Group, focusing on new product innovation.  I am a member of the Abbott Society of Women Engineers and the Women Leaders in Action groups.  I hold two U.S. Patents and am the co-author for one book chapter.  As I mentioned above, I have been involved in the Ohio Valley IFT Board for the last 5 years, in which time I have had the pleasure of connecting with so many wonderful professionals in the food industry.  In my free time I enjoy cooking, working out, spending time with my family and mentoring women in STEM.
