Jonathan Gray

Jonathan Gray, Ph.D. is Senior Director, R&D, Plant-Based Foods & Beverages at WhiteWave Foods. Most recently he was Director of New Technologies at ConAgra Foods Research and Innovation.  At ConAgra, Jonathan led the development of several innovative new product launches for brands such as Healthy Choice, Chef Boyardee, Bertolli, Marie Callender’s, and Kid Cuisine.  He has been extensively involved in product design, consumer research, emerging technologies, and new business development. Prior to ConAgra, he held various food product development and ingredient technology roles at Kraft Foods and Nestle.

Jonathan has been an active member of IFT for the past 19 years, serving in various volunteer capacities including IFT Student Association President, Chair of IFT Management Committee on Membership Experiences, IFT Executive Committee (currently Board of Directors) Student Representative, IFT Carbohydrate and Food Service Division Executive Committees, Lecturer for the Food Science for the Non-Food Scientist IFT short course, IFT Foundation Board Student Representative, and Chair of IFT Committee on Membership of Students and New Professionals.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Food Science from the University of Arkansas, where he was a finalist in the IFTSA Undergraduate Student Paper Competition and a Ph.D. degree in Food Science from Purdue University Whistler Center for Carbohydrate Research, where he was a member of the 1st place IFTSA Product Development Competition team (1999) and was named to the Purdue Alumnus “Forty Under 40” list (2010).
Jonathan is passionate about leadership & innovation, and enjoys spending free time working out, listening to music, traveling, eating great food, and hanging out with his family and friends.
