Dr. Marilyn Schorin leads Schorin Strategies, LLC consulting firm, which she started after leaving Yum Brands, Inc. (KFC, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, Long John Silver’s, A&W Restaurants) as Chief Nutrition and Regulatory Officer. With more than 30 years experience in the food and nutrition business, Dr. Schorin brings a wide range to expertise to her clients. Schorin Strategies helps clients identify emerging issues in food, health and nutrition and devise strategic approaches to handle them, with research, communications, expert counsel and more.
Among the many activities at Yum Brands, Dr. Schorin crafted a strategy to investigate oils to replace trans-fat containing shortening used at KFC and the other restaurants. She assisted the brands in implementing the switch. She also refined the process for reporting nutrition information in the US and Canada and identified an approach for a global reporting system.
Previously, Dr. Schorin was Senior Manager for Scientific and Regulatory Affairs for The Pepsi-Cola Company. Before joining Pepsi-Cola, Marilyn worked as Nutrition Manager for Weight Watchers International, spurring growth in the diet foods and services sector by accelerating communication between weight-loss groups and the associated retail food business.
Dr. Schorin received her Ph.D. in Nutritional Biochemistry from Columbia University, a Masters in Public Health Nutrition from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor of Science degree in dietetics from University of California (Berkeley). She is a Registered Dietitian (RD) and a Fellow of the American Dietetic Association (FADA).
Among various professional activities, she was President of Food Update Foundation (2008-2009). She is Chair-elect of the IFT Nutrition Division and served as Member-at-Large for the Food Laws and Regulations Division (2008-2009). She has also served on the board of the International Life Sciences Institute (ILSI) for North America. She founded the Sports and Cardiovascular Nutrition Practice Group of the American Dietetic Association. She belongs to The American Society for Nutrition and The Obesity Society.In Louisville, Marilyn also serves on the Board of the American Heart Association (Kentuckiana Metro) and the Kentucky Center for the Arts Endowment Board, the Governor’s School for the Arts and the Board of National Council of Jewish Women, Louisville Chapter.
