Matt Teegarden

Matthew Teegarden is currently pursuing his Ph.D. at the Ohio State University, where he also earned his B.S. and M.S. degrees. His research focus is in food chemistry and functional foods, but his interests span the wide array of disciplines that comprise food science.

Matt is currently serving as the Vice President of Development and Communications for IFTSA, and in this role, he manages all social media for the organization as well as the official blog, Science Meets Food. Prior to this, he served terms as treasurer and service chair for the Ohio State Food Science Club. As treasurer, he was able to help guide budgeting of the club funds to facilitate and encourage student attendance at events hosted by the Ohio Valley section of IFT, as well as attendance at IFT14.  During Matt’s term as service chair, he concentrated on diversifying the types of volunteer opportunities available to the members.

This past year he have also had the pleasure of managing the Food Science Mentor Program at Ohio State, which connects freshman with upper classmen to help them gain early exposure to all that food science has to offer.

Outside of school, Matt enjoys cooking, running, and eating an absurd amount of sweets.
