Robert Ross

Robert RossDr. Ross is a Food Scientist with a B.S. degree from Rutgers University and a M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts. He received New York IFT Section scholarships as an undergraduate and got his first job through the IFT Employment Bureau, which led to being an active supporter of IFT ever since.

Dr. Ross has served IFT on the section, division and national levels including Chair of the Nutmeg (CT) Section, IFT Foundation Board, IFT awards juries, newsletter editor, science fair judge and a guest speaker promoting careers in food science at universities and secondary schools. He is currently Chair of the Product Development Division and a member of the 2010 AMSPAP advisory panel, Nutraceuticals & Functional Foods Division, and Foodservice Division.

Professionally, Dr. Ross held technical and senior management positions in a wide range of consumer products companies during a 32 year career at Nestlé, Pepperidge Farm (Campbell Soup), Estee, Warner-Lambert, Nabisco, and Hunt-Wesson. Many of these positions involved international work and an opportunity to gain global perspectives on the food industry. Dr. Ross has been President of Business & Technical Consulting LLC since 2006.

Consistent with Dr. Ross’s interest in all aspects of the food industry, he sought out opportunities to gain first-hand working experiences in many of the disciplines represented by IFT. His responsibilities over the years have included product and process development, QA, sensory evaluation and market research, applied ingredient research, managing factories, technical services, chef and customer services, private label sales, strategic planning, capital projects, joint ventures, licensing, and intellectual property management. He has also served as a member of university Department Advisory Boards and on the Board of the Calorie Control Council.
