What is RSS?
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a format for syndicating news and special kinds of content from websites like ift.org, and having it delivered directly to your desktop. RSS subscriptions give you one place from which you can scan headlines and summaries to read new or updated information that interests you.
Your RSS news reader automatically delivers content to you in an organized manner as new/updated information becomes available on the websites you've selected. For example, rather than searching ift.org for upcoming news and events, you can subscribe to these areas on ift.org and then check your RSS news reader for new information.
How Do I Access RSS Feeds?
There are a number of ways to access RSS feeds. You can install a news reader, such as Bloglines, that displays RSS feeds from the websites that you select. After installing the news reader, you can add each feed manually from the website by clicking on the feed's URL. An alternative to downloading a dedicated news reader is to use a Web-based news reader such as Google Reader. Current versions of Microsoft Outlook also offer RSS aggregation functionality.
To subscribe to an IFT feed, just click on the RSS icon next to the content you wish to subscribe to, and follow the directions. Or, if you’re already using an RSS feed reader, just copy the URL/shortcut that corresponds to the topic that interests you and paste it into your reader.
Note: Google Chrome does not support RSS feeds without an extension. To download an extension, click here.
