Program Description

The School of Food and Nutrition within the Massey Institute of Food Science & Technology delivers the Bachelor of Food Technology with Honours programme from two campuses in New Zealand, Auckland (Albany) and Manawatu (Palmerston North). We offer two areas of specialisation: Food Product Technology and Food Process Engineering. The Food Product Technology major is offered on both campuses while the Food Process Engineering major can be started in Auckland and the final one and half years are completed at the Manawatu campus.

The Bachelor of Food Technology with Honours programme develops graduates who contribute to technical, production, quality and management functions of the national and international food manufacturing industry. Food and food exports are a large part of the New Zealand economy and our graduates add value to New Zealand’s and international economies around the world by contributing to food and beverage industries through the developing of products and processes that provide safe, healthy and nutritious food ingredients and food products, while maximizing sustainability and minimizing environmental impact. Along with the technical knowledge and skills gained during the degree programme, graduates will accumulate valuable industry experience, and develop critical management, business and interpersonal skills.
