After successfully leading the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) as Executive Vice President for more than 10 years, Barbara Byrd Keenan has accepted the position of CEO of The Endocrine Society in Washington, DC.
After successfully leading the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) as Executive Vice President for more than 10 years, Barbara Byrd Keenan has accepted the position of CEO of The Endocrine Society in Washington, DC. With more than 16,000 scientists, physicians, educators, nurses, and students, the Society has an annual operating budget of $30 million. The Washington Business Journal lists the Society as one of the 50 largest associations in Washington, DC.
“As we approach the start of our second century, the Society is actively seeking opportunities to grow in its capacity to lead including moving offices to downtown Washington, enhancing our programs and services, and intensifying our advocacy efforts,” said Teresa K. Woodruff, President of The Endocrine Society. “Ms. Keenan will be instrumental in helping the Society capitalize on its many strengths and continue moving forward.”
“Endocrinologists are on the forefront of medicine and are addressing some of the most pressing health concerns of our day,” said Keenan. “I’m excited to join the Society’s work and become part of its amazing team.”
Keenan will remain at IFT through the end of the year and start her new position on Jan. 6, 2014.

Collins, IFT President. “Most recently, the highly successful IFT Annual Meeting & Food Expo® in Chicago is a true tribute to Barbara’s leadership and her great staff.”
Currently, the IFT Office of the Presidents are working with the Board of Directors to clarify the position needs, identify a search committee, and develop a transition plan moving forward. John Ruff, immediate Past President of IFT, will lead the search for the position, and the Board will provide ongoing support and insights throughout the search process.
