The European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC) and the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) have renewed their commitment to work together in a variety of scientific and technical areas related to food and feed safety, animal health and welfare, plant health, and nutrition. EFSA Executive Director Bernhard Url was at JRC on June 26 to discuss future cooperation with JRC Director General Vladimír Šucha, as the heads of the two organizations signed a renewed Collaboration Agreement.

Both institutions emphasized exchange and joint activities on:

  • Sectoral food and feed legislation (e.g., GMOs, feed additives, or pesticides)
  • Alternative methods to protect animals
  • Combined exposure of chemicals and chemical mixtures
  • Collection and use of landscape and environmental data for use in risk assessment
