The National Honey Board (NHB) is currently accepting pre-proposals for research in two areas as they relate to the composition of honey and the role it can play in healthy diet patterns. The two areas are:

  1. Develop and validate a method for removing antioxidants from honey while retaining nutrient composition and other bioactive components, resulting in a process that produces an antioxidant free honey suitable as a control honey in human nutrition research. One possible approach is to adapt current methods used to produce honey used in pharmaceutical applications as a flavor mask, for example.
  2. Does honey alone or in combination with other foods, particularly those recommended in healthy diet patterns, help U.S. adults maintain digestive health both in terms of measured health markers or outcomes as well as self-reported digestive comfort?

Interested researchers need to submit a short pre-proposal by February 20, 2019.
