Solve a Problem

Why can’t I access certain areas of the site?

I’m NOT currently an IFT member…
Some parts of the site, including the Member Directory, Community areas, and Focus Areas and Core Sciences discussion areas, are reserved for IFT members only.

Consider joining IFT. It’s easy! Just go to the home page and click on Become a Member to the right of the main header. Or, go to the Membership section of the site, which is accessible from the main navigation bar, to learn more about the many benefits of membership in IFT.

I AM currently an IFT member…
If you’re an IFT member and your membership is active, you may not be logged in. To log in, go to the ift.org home page and enter your username and password in the Member Login box. Place a checkmark in the “Remember me on this computer” box so you won’t have to do this every time you visit the site, click the orange Login button, and then try again.

If you’re trying to access a particular group in the Community area, and are unable to gain access, it may be because you are not a member of that group. Some groups, such as the Focus Areas and Core Sciences groups, are open to all IFT members. Simply go to that group’s main page in the Community area and click the large orange Join This Group button in the upper-right portion of your screen.

Please keep in mind that other groups, such as Workgroups & Committees, may be open only to those who are currently participating in those specific groups. Others, like Sections, are open only to those IFT members who have already joined that Section.

If you’re still having problems with access, it may be that your IFT membership has lapsed. Please contact our IFT Central member services team at 312.782.8424, and they will assist you with reinstating your membership.

I’m a regional Section member, but NOT a member of IFT…
If you are a Section member, but are not a member of IFT, you will not have access to some areas of the IFT website. The Member Directory, Community areas, and Focus Areas & Core Sciences discussion areas, for example, are reserved for IFT members only.

Consider joining IFT. It’s easy! Just go to the home page and click on Become a Member to the right of the main header. Or, go to the Membership section of the site, which is accessible from the main navigation bar, to learn more about the many benefits of membership in IFT.

What’s the difference between My Account and My Profile?

My Account contains all of the information about your annual IFT membership and the products or services you may have purchased from IFT, including publication subscriptions and continuing education programs. You can update your contact information, check your membership renewal date, review any orders you may have placed, view your “member since” date, and verify your publication subscriptions from My Account.

Think of My Profile as your online biography. It’s your means for providing information about yourself so that other IFT members who may share your interests or share similar experiences can find you. It’s a great way to connect with other colleagues who may have graduated from the same university, worked for the same company, focused on the same food science specialty area, etc.

How do I update my contact information?

To update your contact information, go to My Account (login required) on the small navigation bar in the very top right corner of your screen (above the search box). What is RSS?
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a format for syndicating news and special kinds of content from websites like ift.org, and having it delivered directly to your desktop. RSS subscriptions give you one place from which you can scan headlines and summaries to read new or updated information that interests you.

Your RSS news reader automatically delivers content to you in an organized manner as new/updated information becomes available on the websites you've selected. For example, rather than searching ift.org for upcoming news and events, you can subscribe to these areas on ift.org and then check your RSS news reader for new information.

How Do I Access RSS Feeds?
There are a number of ways to access RSS feeds. You can install a news reader, such as Bloglines, that displays RSS feeds from the websites that you select. After installing the news reader, you can add each feed manually from the website by clicking on the feed's URL. An alternative to downloading a dedicated news reader is to use a Web-based news reader such as Google Reader. Current versions of Microsoft Outlook also offer RSS aggregation functionality.

To subscribe to an IFT feed, just click on the RSS icon next to the content you wish to subscribe to, and follow the directions. Or, if you’re already using an RSS feed reader, just copy the URL/shortcut that corresponds to the topic that interests you and paste it into your reader.
