Dr. C. Ann Hollingsworth Student Leadership ScholarshipA Feeding Tomorrow Campaign to Honor Her Life and Perpetuate Her Values
Ann Hollingsworth’s Life
Leadership. Courage. Candor. These are characteristics that come to mind when people talk about Ann Hollingsworth, food scientist and dedicated IFT leader.
Ann passed away on May 17, 2009, at age 52. She was President of Better Built Foods, and prior to that worked for Keystone Foods, Bill Mar Foods, and Armour Food Company. She earned her B.S. degree in food science at Auburn University and her M.S. and Ph.D. degrees at the University of Nebraska. Her area of expertise was meat science.
Lifelong Dedication to Students and Her Profession
Ann was a leader of – and believer in – students. She first began this labor of love as a student herself, where her abilities caught the attentions of professors, peers, and the IFT. She then entered the ranks of the professionals in her field, but never lost sight of the importance of student energy, enthusiasm, and leadership for the future of the profession. Ann mentored and participated in the development of many students along the way, and never wavered in her support.
Few can match Ann’s unique contributions, including:
- Service as president of both the IFT and IFTSA, and Vice Chair of the IFT Foundation (now Feeding Tomorrow)
- Her passion for mentoring and promoting students and new professionals in these organizations
- Dedication to the technical areas of meat science and quality assurance
Our Gift to Ann: The Hollingsworth Student Leadership Scholarship
Feeding Tomorrow, through a committee of Ann’s peers, seeks to perpetuate Ann’s values through the establishment of the Dr. C. Ann Hollingsworth Student Leadership Scholarship. The award will recognize student leaders that have demonstrated outstanding leadership at their university and the IFT Student Association, along with a passion for student advocacy, IFT, and their chosen profession.
