Title:   Sr. Product Development Technologist Reports to:   Director of Marketing Services Direct Reports:   None Location:   Escondido, California SalaryRange:   Based on Candidate Skills, Experience and Education SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES Applies scientific and engineering principles in research, development, production technology, packaging, processing, and utilization of foods.                         Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.                                                          Conducts basic research and assists in new product research and development of bakery products. Evaluates and recommends alternate ingredients used in existing products. Inputs data and/or prepares information needed for theoretical nutritionals. Conducts shelf life studies on new products. Responsible for sensory evaluations for new and existing product items. Develops and creates specification sheets for all new products. Reviews labels and film for accuracy and assures appropriate approvals complete. Assists in product development projects as needed. Illinois, The Applications team at Synergy develops standard-setting new product formulations covering the food/confection, beverage and nutrition categories.  The Application team works in a collaborative setting with the Flavor Creations, Sensory, Research and Commercial functions throughout the innovation cycle – ideation and concept development through finished product delivery.  In some instances, the Applications team does full product development as well as provides technical assistance to customers for finished products, including product scale-up at production facilities.   The Senior Beverage Application Technologist I specializes in the development of a wide variety of beverage products utilizing Synergy ingredients.     Independently develop and optimize beverage formulations with full understanding of processing parameters and writing production formulas Utilize flavor knowledge to select best flavor for each application and work closely with flavor creation team to optimize flavors when needed Lead multiple projects independently in terms of planning, communication, organization and time management Provide technical guidance to junior team members Provide technical support on customer calls and plant trials Work collaboratively with sales and marketing as the technical lead to create presentations and demos for customers Participate in routine taste panels Keep up-to-date on technologies, science and trends related to the beverage category and the flavor industry BS degree or higher in Food Science or other applied science  7+ years of experience in beverage development, 2-3 years of experience with alcohol development preferred Ability to work accurately, quickly and with good laboratory practices. Ability to communicate effectively and concisely Must possess good documentation skills and be adept at working within Excel, Word and assorted databases Positive attitude and willingness to work in a fast-paced team environment...
