Product Development Focus: Low-Glycemic Foods

Food Technology magazine has teamed up with Mintel’s Global New Products Database (GNPD) to bring you the latest in product innovation. Food Technology & GNPD have provided a preview of the latest products that are generating international buzz within the low-glycemic foods category. 

Low-glycemic is making its way around the globe, and some are touting it as the next potential diet craze in the U.S. The following products are providing interesting ways manufacturers are leveraging low-glycemic index in new developments.

Radnor Hills: GI Fruits Still Fruit Drinks Range (UK)

In the UK, Radnor Hills recently introduced GI Fruits Still Fruit Drinks Range, a range of still fruit drinks with a low glycemic index (under 55 of on the glycemic scale), made from Welsh mineral water. They are said to provide a longer lasting energy source, keeping blood sugar levels stable. Additionally, they contain no artificial colors or sweeteners, and are available in Blueberry, Orange, Apple, and Lemon & Lime varieties.



Kashi: Go Lean Energy Roll (U.S.)

In the U.S., Kashi released its new Go Lean Energy Roll, which features an Optimized Glycemic Response formula that slowly releases carbohydrates to help balance the blood sugar. In addition, the product contains 12g of protein and 5g of fiber.



Majans: Monsoon Savoury Snack Range (Australia)

Majans in Australia extended its range of Monsoon Savoury Snacks to include Monsoon Chips, available in Yoghurt & Spring Onion and Vinegar & Sea Salt varieties. Monsoon Chips are said to have all the goodness and protein of the simple chick pea, transformed into a crunchy chip containing 30% less calories than regular potato chips, a low GI of 32, and no cholesterol or gluten.
