Question & Answer with Michael Loehfelm, Secretary 

When was the Western New York Section established?
Our section was chartered in 1945.

How did you become interested in volunteering for this section? 
I was new to the food manufacturing industry in 2003. I thought WNYIFT would be a good way to network and learn more about my field.

What has been your best attended section event?
The best attended event is our annual food expo which is held in March.  Last year, we also had a very good turnout for a tour and learning session held at a local ice cream company.

What are a couple of fun facts associated with your section?

  • Our section funds student scholars through the Cornell University Summer Scholars Program.
  • Our annual golf outing is an opportunity for our section to thank the corporate sponsors who support our annual food expo. The food expo is a very successful event in terms of attendance and sponsors.
  • We have awarded annual section scholarships to food science and viticulture students since 2001. Historically, we have been able to award nine scholarships a year.
  • Our section values and supports our student members by subsidizing meeting costs so they have the opportunity to attend and network at our events.
