Smart Snacks for Kids Product Development Competition

The IFTSA Smart Snacks for Kids Competition challenges students to develop a fun and nutritious food or beverage product targeted at kids and/or teens. Products must abide by the USDA “Guide to Smart Snacks in Schools” recommendations (specific information can be found here. Teams are empowered to use their imagination in order to engage their chosen audience in the science and overall appeal behind a novel product of their creation. A crucial component of a winning product is the team’s ability to relay the food or beverage’s ”smart” qualities to both a technical AND a general audience. Now, leverage your ‘smarts’, channel your inner child, and develop the ULTIMATE kid-friendly product imaginable!

Eligibility

Teams submitting proposals should have 2-5 members and be enrolled at the same institution during the fall semester. All members of the team must be student members of the Institute of Food Technologists. For complete details, consult the Rules and Regulations document for this competition.

Awards

Each of the finalist teams will receive a certificate and a reimbursement for travel to IFT19 of up to $1500. Winners will be announced at the IFTSA Closing Ceremony. Prize amounts are as follows:

  • First (1st) Place: $3,000
  • Second (2nd) Place: $1,500
  • Third (3rd) Place: $500

The winning team will be highlighted in the issue of Food Technology following IFT19.
