Medisyn Technologies Inc. has signed a deal with Kraft Foods Inc. to help develop new functional foods, according to an article in Star Tribune. Founded in 1999, Medisyn’s primary focus is to help pharmaceutical companies develop new drugs. However, for Kraft the company is going to try to identify new health benefits from existing natural food compounds that, for example, might help lower cholesterol, improve digestibility and strengthen bone density. In 2007, Kraft launched LiveActive foods, which contain probiotics to soothe the digestive system. The food giant is hoping the partnership will enable it to benefit from the popularity of health and wellness items and to bring new products to the market faster.
