The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is extending the comment period for the proposed rule “Current Good Manufacturing Practice and Hazard Analysis and Risk-Based Preventive Controls for Food for Animals” and the “Draft Qualitative Risk Assessment of Risk of Activity/Animal Food Combinations for Activities (Outside the Farm Definition) Conducted in a Facility Co-Located on a Farm,” both of which appeared in the Oct. 29, 2013 Federal Register.

Comments on this proposed rule and draft risk assessment as well as comments on the information collection provisions associated with these rules may be submitted until March 31, 2014. Comments were originally due by Feb. 26, 2014.

The FDA is taking this action in response to requests for an extension to allow interested persons more time to comment because both the proposed preventive control requirements and the proposed current good manufacturing practice (CGMP) requirements are new to the animal food industry.
