Petfood Industry magazine has released its list of the top 50 global pet food companies for 2017, which was compiled based on information from a variety of sources, including: Petfood Industry’s exclusive industry survey, pet food association lists, business and government reports, credible third-party data, company websites, annual reports and securities filings of publicly traded companies, regional and international business news, and reporting through industry contacts. From all these sources, Petfood Industry compiles a profile of each company in the database and selects the top players globally based on annual revenue (US$ millions).

The top 10 pet food companies with 2017 annual revenues were:

  1. Mars Petcare Inc. ($17.2 billion)
  2. Nestlé Purina PetCare ($12.5 billion)
  3. Hill’s Pet Nutrition ($2.3 billion)
  4. J.M. Smucker ($2.1 billion)
  5. Diamond Pet Foods ($1.5 billion)
  6. Blue Buffalo ($1.3 billion)
  7. Spectrum Brands/United Pet Group ($801.1 million)
  8. Ainsworth Pet Nutrition ($800 million)
  9. Unichard Corp. ($752.6 million)

“The global pet food market is still growing in both sales and production,” said Debbie Phillips-Donaldson, editor of Petfood Industry magazine. “Western Europe and North America continue to make up the majority of our database, but we have improved our data for companies in other regions, especially Asia-Pacific, and the rankings include newly listed pet food players from those regions.”
