Ground Beef with Omega-3s
NBO3 Technologies, Manhattan, Kan., has launched
GreatO Premium Ground Beef, an 80/20 lean to fat ratio ground beef that is naturally abundant in omega-3 fatty acids.
GreatO contains 200 mg of omega-3 fatty acids/4-oz serving while grass-fed beef contains 70 mg/4-oz serving and conventional ground beef does not contain any omega-3 fatty acids. NBO3 Technologies worked with
Kansas State University for over 10 years to create and bring to market
GreatO Premium Ground Beef.
TOPS Friendly Markets, with supermarkets in upstate New York, northern Pennsylvania, and western Vermont, is the first grocery retailer in the United States to carry the new ground beef, which is available in 1-lb packages with a suggested retail price of $4.99. “We are thrilled to partner with
GreatO to bring this truly innovative product to Tops customers first,” said Jim Lane, Tops Markets’ Director of meat and seafood. “We are always looking for ways to help our customers make more nutritious choices, and
GreatO ground beef will be an ideal way for families to incorporate those good nutrients into their weekly meals.”
Bread Goes Plum Purple
Sunsweet Bakery, San Diego, Calif., has introduced
Sunsweet Healthy Plum Amazin Purple Country Bread at select
Costco stores on the West Coast of the United States. The bread, which retails for about $5 for a 28-oz loaf, features a striking purple color due to three colorful ingredients—diced dried plums, whole grain purple wheat flour, and purple corn flour. The bread also contains oat flakes, sunflower seed, millet, and flaxseed. A one-slice serving (33 g) delivers 90 calories, 2 g fat, 115 mg sodium, 17 g carbohydrate, and 2 g dietary fiber. Other plum-infused bakery products from Sunsweet include
Purple Swirl Loaf Cake, Purple Swirl Bread, Purple Dinner Rolls, Oatmeal Plum Walnut Cookies, and
Plum Walnut Breakfast Bites. According to Sunsweet, studies have shown dried plums to be higher in antioxidants, higher in fiber, and lower in sugar than raisins and dried cranberries.
