Pulo cooking sauceFlavors of the Philippines
Pulo Cuisine’s
namesake collection of sauces and marinades honors the idea that the diverse cultural influences found within the Philippines created the original fusion cuisine, according to Vince Uy, founder and president. “With more than 7,000 islands, the country is a dynamic mix of different cultures, including Malay, Chinese, Spanish, Indian, and American,” he says. “These influences have all contributed to the richness of Philippine culture and cooking.”

Pulo, which means “island” in Filipino, is made in small batches and kettle-cooked slowly to bring out the flavors of ingredients such as garlic, sautéed onions, fruit purees, palm vinegar, lemongrass, and peanuts. The vegan marinades—Lemongrass Atsuete, Pineapple Tamarind, and Mango Chili—and cooking sauces—Coconut Adobo and Kare-Kare Toasted Peanut—contain no freeze-dried ingredients or artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives.

The line can be found at World Market locations across the United States for a suggested retail price of $5.99.

Cado avocado frozen dessertCreamy frozen avocado
Cado
recently released its Cado frozen dessert, which it says is the first nondairy avocado-based ice cream alternative on the market. With an entire organic avocado packed into each pint, Cado provides monounsaturated fats while eschewing gluten, soy, nuts, and animal products of any kind.

“Our avocado base provides a creamy canvas for traditional ice cream flavors like mint chocolate chip and dark chocolate as well as completely new flavors that accent the avocado, like our Simply Lemon,” says cofounder Jack Dowd. “Cado is an entirely new kind of ice cream.”

Cado can be found across the Midwest in all Whole Foods Market locations, as well as select independent health markets and Hy-Vee stores, for a suggested retail price of $7.99 per pint.

Ozery Bakery One Bun Organic SquaresMaking a square meal
Ozery Bakery
introduced its line of One Bun Organic Squares, skinny, presliced sandwich buns made with seeds and grains that deliver 6 grams of protein, 3–4 grams of fiber, more than 15 grams of whole grains, and 2–3.5 grams of fat with just 180–190 calories and 2 grams of sugar per serving.

“We’ve observed that consumers are on the lookout for products containing ancient grains like Kamut wheat, millet, rye, spelt, etc.—all of which offer superior flavor, nutrition, and taste,” says Guy Ozery, president of Ozery Bakery. “We also chose to incorporate various seeds such as flax, sunflower, and pumpkin … in order to provide added texture, vitamins, protein, and fiber and further enhance the product’s nutrition profile.”

The buns, which are free from artificial preservatives, colors, and flavors, are available in two varieties. Organic Multi Seed One Bun Squares are made with organic stone-ground whole wheat and organic ingredients such as poppy, pumpkin, chia, flax, and sunflower seeds, while Organic Ancient Grains One Bun Squares include organic Kamut, millet, spelt, rye, and quinoa.

The buns can be found in retailers for an average suggested retail price of $4.59.
