John Bode, Principal, John Bode LLC
Mr. Bode represents leading food companies and trade associations in regulatory compliance, congressional investigations, and government relations matters, and serves as trade association general counsel. He has played a significant role in every major change in federal food law over the past 20 years and every Farm Bill since 1981. Mr. Bode was deeply involved in development of the Nutrition Labeling and Education Act and the Food Safety Modernization Act. He was also a technical advisor to the Republic of Mexico on phytosanitary standards during NAFTA negotiations.
Ricardo Carvajal, Director, Hyman, Phelps & McNamara, P.C.
Mr. Carvajal is a Director with Hyman, Phelps & McNamara, P.C., a law firm based in Washington D.C. that specializes in food and drug law. He provides FDA and FTC regulatory counseling and litigation support to manufacturers and marketers of foods. Mr. Carvajal has substantial experience with labeling and advertising issues, including the use of health, nutrient content, structure/function, and disease claims. He also has substantial experience with recalls, Reportable Food Registry issues, and GMP and HACCP compliance issues.
Anthony Pavel, J.D., Partner, Morgan, Lewis, & Bockins LLP
Mr. Pavel provides regulatory counseling to clients on food, drug, and cosmetic and medical device products. He has a broad range of experience with issues involving product claims in labeling, advertising, and other promotional material, as well as clinical research and substantiation issues, and regulatory strategies for functional foods and dietary supplements. Mr. Pavel also assists clients with novel food and color additive petitions, food packing and labeling, Food Contact Notifications and secondary food additives (packaging, processing aids), food safety compliance, HACCP, SSOPs, GMPs, and GRAS self-affirmations and notifications.
