Food Summit China Hosted by CIFST

Food Summit China 2017 & the 14th Annual Meeting of Chinese Institute of Food Science and Technology (CIFST) will be held in Wuxi, China November 8-9, 2017. This is the ninth meeting in cooperation with IFT since Food summit in China 2002 in Shanghai.

Food scientists from China and the US will share the achievements of food science and technology, share the achievement as the connection of science and industry,  share the successful experience on building a safe and healthy food supply chain, and enjoy the good time together in Wuxi.

This conference is undertaken by Jiangnan University, Nanjing Agricultural University, Jiangsu University and Jiangsu Institute of Food Science and Technology.

CIFSTChinese Institute of Food Science and Technology (CIFST) is a national scientific society with members working in food science, food technology and related professions in industry, academia, and government. As a member of China Association for Science and Technology, CIFST is founded in November, 1980. CIFST is committed to capability building by recruiting the first-class professionals, strengthen capability by helping industry and academia, and establish a platform for domestic and international exchange for food professionals all over the country to promote the development of food science and technology in China. CIFST joined IUFoST in September, 1984 as China national representative body. CIFST was approved to be IUFoST China headquarter in 2001, and successfully held the 14th World Congress of Food Science and Technology in 2008.

Mission and Tasks

  • Focuses on domestic and international exchange and communication in food science and technology;
  • Promotes the advancement of national food science and technology and research and development in industry, and also provides consulting service;
  • Fosters cooperation among professionals in industry,academia and government;
  • Organizes continuing education and training of food science and technology;
  • Supports the technical innovation in food production,preservation, processing, manufacturing, circulation and etc;
  • Carries out public education in food science and technology.

2015 Highlights:

China Summit Student Competition

The 1st place team of the 2014-2015 IFTSA & MARS Product Development Competition advanced to compete in a ‘Competition of Champions’ style product development competition in conjunction with the CIFST.

The CIFST/IFT Global Product Development Competition took place at the CIFST Food Summit during the week of October 19, 2015 in Dalian, China. The 1st place team presented their winning product concept, (i.e. the same product they won the MARS competition with) in a single round consisting of a final paper, oral, and poster presentation, very similar to what was previously completed during the final round of the MARS competition. Please note that this is a separate competition from the IFTSA & MARS competition, but teams must submit to the IFTSA & MARS competition to be eligible.

IFTSA teamed up with CIFST to put together this joint PD competition.  CIFST hosts four product development competitions on a yearly basis within their organization, somewhat similar to competitions hosted by IFTSA.  CIFST will select winners of these four competitions to move on and compete in the CIFST/IFT Global Product Development Competition.

At the CIFST Food Summit, teams presented their product orally, followed by a Q&A session, and a poster presentation.  Judging was be based on, but not limited to, overall innovation, how well the product fit the original competition, marketability in the target market the product is meant for, and technical challenges.
