The Associate Technical Services Specialist will provide technical and application support to our specialty ingredients business to help meet customer needs and to strengthen customer relationships. They will also support new product and process development efforts as needed.

This full time position is based in Newark, DE.

Key Result Areas:


North America Sales Support
– Promote and enhance the company’s image by demonstrating Corn Products’ application understanding through direct response to customer inquiries, trade show activities, promotional products, and involvement with technical associations. Assist with support to food business customers in the areas of new and existing ingredient applications by directly responding to inquiries, or obtaining information through test protocols, studies and experimental designs executed in the food lab. Assist with evaluation and interpretation of lab results for follow-up actions with internal and external customers. Monitor industry trends and gain an understanding of product applications. Identify and report on new applications and trends that could enable Corn Products to offer additional value-added ingredients.

Analytical Support
- Perform analytical tests, studies and product evaluations (physical, chemical and sensory) to meet business demands in support of commercialized products, new products and operations. Interpret data and results of tests performed to provide accurate and timely information as to the technical features and benefits of food ingredients and ingredient applications.

Marketing and Promotion
- Provide hands on ingredient application support by working under the direction of the Technical Services Specialist primarily to prepare food items or data for purposes of marketing and promotion of CP ingredients. Specific duties include preparation and evaluation of finished food items, assistance in development of new formulations, refinement of existing formulations, and performance of analytical tests and studies as needed. Provide assistance in obtaining ingredients, packaging/shipping items, tracking observations and data, conducting sensory panels, writing reports, and participating in related activities.

Intellectual Property
– Maintain notebooks to conform with IP protocol.

Cross-functional Communication
– Participate in cross functional teams for projects such as new ingredient launch and other activities that promote business goals. Communicate pertinent information across cross-functional lines of the business in timely oral and written reports.

SELECTION CRITERIA:


Please consider your background relative to the following selection criteria before submitting a profile for consideration.

1. Bachelor’s degree in food science, chemistry or related scientific field (e.g. engineering, nutrition, food technology)
2. Experience working with carbohydrates, food formulations, and/or product development in a laboratory setting a plus
3. Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills required for formulation work
4. Good written and oral communication skills Flexible interpersonal skills, with an ability to interact effectively across all levels of the organization and in a variety of cultures – both internal and external
5. Good planning and organizational skills
6. Self starter, able to work independently, with minimal direction
7. Approximately 20% travel will be required

Summary:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conducts bench top product development of nutritional food supplements, taking product from original concept to completion of manufacturing process.
- Researches and develops nutrition and product parameters for unique applications in new market places.
- Researches methods to support development of new product and program concepts.
- Evaluates raw materials and finished product contract manufacturers for product quality and process feasibility.
- Provides evaluation and recommendations for product improvements by addressing flavor, texture, nutritional value, convenience, composition and cost.
- Recommends specific ingred ient, processes and packaging materials.
- Provides technical support to current customer base.
- Performs miscellaneous quality control duties.
- Performs miscellaneous duties as requested.
Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) or Master's degree (M.A.) in Food Science or Nutrition from four-year College or university and minimum of three (3) years applied
experience.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, OSAS (basic inquiry), and Nutritionist IV software.

SCOPE: Purpose: To ensure that the plant has a comprehensive and well functioning quality system, the goal of which is to minimize risks to food safety, quality and environment. Responsibilities include product from supplier to sales depot and processes related to ingredient/product receipt, testing, handling, storage, conversion, and tracking as well as consumer complaint resolution, customer, government, and internal audits.
Qualified candidate must lead and manage with a systemic and proactive approach to both Food Safety and Quality. Must be able to identify the root cause of all issues and implement solutions that permanently reduce risk of product failure. Resolution will include the development of standards, the design and execution of audit programs, the investigation of process failures and the execution of action plans. The candidate will work closely with divisional Quality Systems Manager on initiatives and program creation.
PRINCIPAL AC COUNTABILITIES:
Safety: Be a leader in the plant’s journey to zero injuries and help establish a safety culture
Quality: / Regulatory : Ensure that basic government and company mandated programs are in place and are functioning properly.
Assess the risk of product failure in the plant and prioritize response. Provide plant management with regular assessments and action plans.
Work with Corporate, Division, and Plant resources to design and implement processes to permanently reduce the risk of product failure. These may include:
Ingredient and packaging specification documentation and change control; supplier certification, auditing, and performance management.
Material control protocols including stock rotation, storage conditions, hold and release.
Design and maintenance of quality control point programs; process documentation and change control.
Product specification, process operating guide (POG), changeover checklist design, documentation, change control and training and compliance Programs such as start-up checklists, inprocess cheeks, first article inspection, finished product retention and testing.
Support the development of product ingredient test protocols, measurement system validation (including test equipment calibration) and use of proper test methods.
Ensure that processes to respond to product failure (e.g. stock recovery, recall) are well designed and tested regularly. Support execution of those processes when they are needed.
Establish positive working relationships with customers, business segments and pr oduction. Assure timely resolution to all complaints.
• Cost: Support R&D In the identification and implementation of formula optimizations, including the implementation management and monitoring consumer perceived quality. Responsible for Quality budget. Support the achievement of plant cost targets by monitoring process performance and identifying opportunities to enhance.
• Process Improvement: Develop and implement technical operating procedures for the department with employee input. Supports 1PM Manager and other plant leaders in the reduction of variability and continuous improvement through knowledge transfer and employee involvement.
• Leadership: Team with other departments in the attainment of plant goals and objectives and the creation of a culture of teamwork, excellence, passion, and customer focus. Works with other Company facilities to implement best practices.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:   BA or BS degree, preferably in food science, biology, or chemistry. 5 years of experience in manufacturing quality control/quality assurance. Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (PowerPoint, Word, Excel), Experience in SPC (IPM or other Total Quality Management programs). Experience in GMP.

Job Description:
• Develop new products in the areas of spreadable cheese products and other specialty cheeses to achieve business goal for new product launches.
• Improve quality and processing of existing products to increase quality or enhance product value.
• Provide technical support to resolve products/production performance issues and to ensure procedures executed to produce consistent quality products.
• Evaluate new and alternative ingredients, and design and conduct trials that lead to innovative new products, flavors, and/or applications.
• Interacts on a regular basis with Sales/Marketing, Operations, and Quality Departments to address current development/improvement needs and priority.
• Practice development process systematically and innovatively via bench top development, pilot plant trials, production-scale plant trials, and database decisions for next steps.

Experience required:
Minimum Bachelor of Science degree in food or dairy science or equivalent.
Minimum 3 years experience in R & D product development in food/dairy industry.
Knowledge in food chemistry, food processing, statistics, experimental designs, sensory evaluations, and food ingredients functionalities.
Knowledge in cheese, goat milk, goat cheese, and goat technology preferred.
Proficient in Excel, Word, MS project, Visio, and Power Point.
Good communication, problem solving, and documentation skills.
Must have self initiative.
Must be results oriented=2 0and able to work independently.
Leadership skills and Supervisory potential is a plus.
