Dear respected member of NCIFT, On Saturday, May 2nd, 2009, the UC Davis Department of Food Science and Technology and the Food Science Graduate Student Association (FSGSA) will be hosting the eighth annual “Food Championship” (or “Food Olympics” in the past) in the sensory lab in RMI, Food Science and Technology Department, UC Davis. This much awaited annual event brings students, staff, faculty and the community together for a fun filled day of activities that celebrate food. This event is open to general public and we will have 6 teams of 4-8 people competing in this competition. The teams will compete in several exciting competitions including creating food art and a culinary combat -- an Iron Chef Style competition where teams compete using secret and unique ingredients. Approximately 100 attendees from UC Davis, Culinary Institute of America (CIA) at Greystone and nearby area will attend this event. Lunch will be provided for all attendees at the RMI Courtyard, Food Science and Technology Department. Flyers for the event will be posted around campus and press release will be sent to local newspapers such as The California Aggie and Sacramento Bee. We will have brochures at the event and a section will be reserved for thanking our sponsors such as your company. In order to make this event happen, we are seeking donations from local food outlets/ producers for ingredients to use at the culinary combat (6 teams cook for 3 judges) and food to serve at lunch reception (~ 100 servings). Such donations may include ingredients (raw vegetables and fruit, bread, cheese, etc.) or pre-made appetizers, desserts, beverages. We hope you will take this opportunity to support your local food science graduate group and create some publicity for your company. More information on this event please visit: http://foodscience.ucdavis.edu/fsgsa/ Thank you for you help and support! Sincerely NCIFT student representatives, Candice Y. Lin (canlin@ucdavis.edu) Leigh Schmidt (lcschmidt@ucdavis.edu) Suvaluk (Su) Asavasanti (suasa@ucdavis.edu)
