Hello Everyone!
The Food Ingredient Expo (FIX) was again a wonderful success. Thank you to Jeff Clawson, FIX Committee Chair and all of the volunteers including students who gave freely of their time, energy and commitment to this section event. We also want to thank the dedicated Suppliers and Attendees for supporting this annual event. A special thank you also goes out to OSIFT Section Secretary Kim Hutchinson of BioLogic Resources LLC for providing the gourmet hors d’oeuvres and liquid refreshments to the Hospitality Suite at the DoubleTree Hotel held immediately after FIX. Former FIX Chair Dann Barnard deserves recognition as the guiding light behind Jeff Clawson and the success of the event. Dann served for several years as the Chair of FIX and had things so organized and automated that everything went well and without a hitch.
Our April meeting will be held in conjunction with the Oregon Dairy Industries (ODI) Conference April 13, 2010 in the Salem Conference Center. This is a great opportunity to meet and network with our Oregon dairy professionals. ODI has again graciously invited OSIFT members to join them in the Hospitality Suite where we will have the opportunity to mingle with other Industry professionals. The Hospitality Suite/Social Hour will take place from 5:30-6:30pm, followed by dinner and the speaker presentation.
I look forward to seeing you all at the Salem Conference Center next month. There is also a continuing need for volunteers to fill Committee and Chair positions for this coming 2010-2011 OSIFT season, please see Joanne Barnard with email Barnard.Jo@gmail.com or JoanneB@ofpc.com if you are ready, willing and able. Thank you everyone!
Regards,
Bill Grano OSIFT Chair 2009-2010 |

Although milk is commonly recognized as nature's nearly perfect food, some argue otherwise. "Milk causes allergy", "Cow's milk is for Calves and not people", "Got Milk? Got Prostate Cancer?", "Don't Drink That Milk!"... Hardly a month passes without some news about the bad bad milk. Many myths and misconceptions about milk and dairy food abound. So who defends milk? This presentation will examine several common myths and misconceptions about milk, discuss approaches to improve upon limitations and shortcomings of milk, and address the nutritional significance of milk and dairy food as a vital component of our diet. |

Message from the FIX Chair Jeff Clawson |

Thank you all for a great turn out for FIX (Suppliers Night) on the 22nd of February. We had 147 suppliers and over 200 attendees. The section brought it over $20,000 – this money will be used for the section operation, subsidizing the some of the cost for the monthly meetings, over $8,000 in scholarships, and donations to charities! Special thanks to our speakers at the technical section; Pam Vaillancourt, Jeff Cawley, Stephen Lauro, and National President of IFT Marianne Gillette. We have an amazing team of volunteers who donate their time and energy into putting this event on – what an awesome group!
Next year FIX will be on Monday February 28th, 2011.

A Call for Volunteers Joanne Barnard |
|
|
Hello Everyone, The winds of change are blowing hard within the Oregon Section this spring. Several of the volunteer positions that are critically important to the smooth operation of the section could be vacant next year unless you step forward. Yes, I’m talking to you! I know you’re busy, we all are. We still need you! We are in need of someone to fill the very important position of Membership Chair. Do you like knowing what everyone is up to? Do you want to be the first to know when someone changes jobs or gets a promotion? Do you want an excuse to contact someone you haven’t heard from in a while? If this sounds like you, you just might be the person we need. If you’re interested, let’s talk. If you are intrigued, let’s talk. If you just want to know more, let’s talk.
On the other hand, we have need for a computer whiz too. Do you look at our website or newsletter and mumble to yourself, “I could do better than that.” If so, now is your chance! If you know a little bit about web design, let’s talk. If you know a lot about web design, let’s talk soon. If you know you want to help with the Oregon Section IFT website or newsletter, let’s talk now!
There are more opportunities with Oregon Section IFT to explore your talents. Whatever it is you like to do, we can find a place for you. You won’t regret your involvement with Oregon Section IFT. We have a lot of fun and we welcome your involvement.
You will continue to hear from me over the next several weeks as we work to fill these and other very important positions.
Happy Spring!
