Message from the Chair |
|
|
What an incredible start to the 2008-2009 OSIFT season we had last month with Dr. Taylor and his very timely and interesting presentation. Thank you to all who attended!
This month’s meeting will be at Oregon State University to recognize outstanding undergraduate students in the Food Science and Technology program at OSU.
This year the section is proud to award scholarships totaling $6,000 to three very deserving students. Congratulations to all recipients! The students that graduate from the FST program at OSU make a huge contribution to the region’s food industry through their knowledge, innovation and dedication. This is why financial support in the form of scholarships from individuals, companies, and organizations is so essential.
As I mentioned in my last message to you, committees are extremely vital to the success of our section. This month’s committee spotlight is on the Hospitality Committee chaired by Kim Hutchinson. The members of the Hospitality Committee welcome each guest upon entrance to the monthly meetings. This is a great way to meet and network with industry professionals.
I would also like to take this opportunity to ask for volunteers to serve on the very important Auditing Committee. This is an excellent way to get involved and understand the financial workings of the organization. Please contact me if you are interested in serving on this or any other committee. Did I happen to mention that having fun is an important element in all of the committee meetings?
I look forward to seeing everyone on October 14th at OSU! |
