OSIFT Recruitment Video! Watch it today!

March 22, 2013

Greetings OSIFT Members!

Springtime is here!! For students, that means spring break! For everyone else, it’s time to cut out early on a Friday afternoon when the sun is shining, right?! No?... Hmmm… Ok, I suppose we can get excited about pastel colors then!

It’s been a while since we’ve come together. Our last event was our annual Supplier’s Night/Food Ingredient eXpo (FIX) in February, which was a great success thanks to the very generous volunteers that make up the Oregon Section! Thank you to all our volunteers, as well as to our exhibitors and attendees who bring the energy and spirit to the event. We had a great showing at the expo, and learned a lot about recent regulatory changes during our technical sessions thanks to our speakers, Charles Breen (FDA), Dawn Smith (ODA) and David Durkin (Attorney, Olsson Frank). Great discussion, everyone!

This just in… Did you know that OSIFT officially launched a video highlighting the benefits of membership? It’s true! Our plan is to use this video, titled “The Right Ingredients” as a recruitment tool as well as to demonstrate what a unique and energetic organization we are. We had a lot of fun putting together the content and shooting the b-roll scenes. The result of our effort is now on YouTube, and can be found using this link:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wdSV_eYS3J8&feature=youtu.be.

The Oregon Section will welcome IFT’s Sharon Kneebone to Oregon on April 8th – 10th who will be here to help us promote the video. If you or your company wish to speak with Sharon or you would like to have a presentation on the benefits of IFT membership, please contact me today to organize that!

Also happening that week is our next OSIFT Monthly Meeting!! Our next gathering is on April 9th, 2013 at The Woodlands at Wellspring in Woodburn, OR. This meeting is pretty special because we are actually going to turn it into a launch party! Come see the video and celebrate with us!

In addition, Sarah Cunningham, Ph.D. will be at the event to speak about her work in the area of food anthropology! Local food systems and food insecurity get a lot of buzz these days, and no one knows that better than Dr. Cunningham. In her words, “Food is a good topic for anthropologists because it is so much like culture!” I can’t agree more, and I am really looking forward to hearing her speak on some of her current work.

Please consider joining us for our next meeting on April 9, 2013 at 5:30pm. Registration is now open and you can sign up using the following Eventbrite link: http://osiftapril2013.eventbrite.com/.  You should also receive an email directly from Eventbrite. The deadline to grab a seat is April 4, 2013 at 12pm (noon), so sign up today!!!

I hope to see you all there! Thanks again for all your support and enthusiasm!

Kind Regards,

Dawn Merrill
OSIFT Chair, 2012-2013
