The Washington, DC Section IFT is seeking nominations from all members for individuals to be considered for receipt of the section’s Award of Merit. The deadline is January 17, 2003.  Nominees should meet the following selection guidelines: Members of the Washington Section who have served intensively (i.e. active participation in a service or activity) for five or more years, or sustained performance of routine service over an extended period of 10 or more years in several activities, and have demonstrated exemplary or technically noteworthy performance in such activities.

The section needs volunteers to serve on the Awards Committee, chaired by Joan R. Rothenberg, International Food Information Council (202-296-6540 or rothenberg@ific.org).  Contact Joan if you are interested in serving on this committee or to submit your nominations.  Include a 300-word description of the member’s qualifications for consideration.  Nominations may also be sent to any member of the executive committee. Stay In-the-Know: Send Your Feedback

The Washington, DC Section IFT is considering the discontinuation of its Capital Voices newsletter via U.S. mail.  Members of the Executive Committee may soon provide members with an option of receiving meeting notices and news electronically only, to those who have email addresses and choose this option.  The Executive Committee would like to hear your opinion and know your preference in receiving notices about upcoming events and news.  Send your comments to Chair-elect, Dorothea Vafiadis, ILSI North America, at dvafiadis@ilsi.org, or give her a call at 202-659-0074, ext. 163.

Volunteer Judges Needed for Science Fair

Each year members of the Washington, DC Section IFT judge regional high school science fairs.  The winners are awarded a one-year subscription to "Food Technology" and given an award certificate from the section.  Judges are needed for the District, Montgomery County, Prince George's County, Fairfax County and Northern Virginia.  Contact Robyn Reynolds, Consumer Safety Officer, FDA, CFSAN via email at Robyn.Reynolds@cfsan.fda.gov.
