A message from the Co-Chairs

In the course of my duties with the national Committee on Sections and Divisions, I've discovered that the D.C. Section is quite unlike the other Sections throughout the country. We meet mostly in the afternoon, seldom having dinner together, love to conclude meetings by 5 pm, and we focus on government affairs, usually through panel discussion. The members of other Sections have to drive several hours to an evening meeting with one after dinner speaker on a food topic, rarely exploring the regulatory process. I'm impressed that 10% or more of the Sections' membership attends regularly. DC, has been getting about 5%. Your D.C. Executive Committee is pondering what we can do to bring YOU out to an IFT meeting. We'd like to think we've offered topics of interest and the price has been fairly cheap. But there must be something missing given the attendance, and we will soon send out a survey to find out what we can do to peak your interest. Please respond as we can't improve until we hear what you want. In the meantime, the January 5th meeting hosts the new Director of FDA's Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition. We'll serve you a lasagna lunch right here at National Food Processors in the heart of downtown D.C. (near the Metro), give out a couple of door prizes, and trust that you=ll be here to welcome Joseph Levitt.

 "What's Hot News at FDA ? "

At our next meeting, DCIFT is featuring Dr. Joseph Levitt, Director, Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition, Food and Drug Administration, who will give a presentation on "hot news" at FDA. This should be an interesting and informative session given the high profile that food safety has obtained recently. We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible.
