Givaudan, a flavor and fragrances company, has inaugurated a new extension to its Nantong, China manufacturing facility aimed to support the capacity on liquid flavor production for beverages, dairy, and sweet goods. This move will double the company’s flavor production capacity in China. The approximately $30 million brings the company’s total investment on the Nantong facility to approximately $81 million.

The new 16,000-square-meter addition to the original site will enable Givaudan to meet the growing demand from customers in the food and beverage segments in China. About 95% of the total production capacity will support customers in China. The Nantong manufacturing facility will strengthen the company’s existing capabilities in savory and culinary flavor blends, snack seasonings, and spray dried and liquid flavors.

“We are delighted to open the new extended space at our Nantong facility. The total investment we have made on the Nantong site supports our strategic goal of increasing Givaudan’s footprint in high growth markets and capturing growth opportunities,” said Gilles Andrier, CEO Givaudan. “More importantly, the larger Nantong site will now enable Givaudan to collaborate even more closely with our customers to deliver innovative and creative taste solutions to the ever-evolving Chinese market.”

In other news, Givaudan has signed the pledge “Business Ambition for 1.5°C” proposed by the United Nations to aim for net-zero value chain emissions by 2050. In September, Givaudan was among the first few companies to align on the 1.5°C trajectory with updated targets to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 70% between 2015 and 2030. These targets were approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) as consistent with levels required to meet the most ambitious goal of the Paris Agreement.

“The scale of the climate crisis is more visible than ever. Climate change is disrupting people, business operations, and economies around the world. We must act now to have any chance of keeping global warming to a maximum of 1.5°C,” said Andrier.
