Giract, a business research and consultancy firm, and Andy Taylor, professor at the University of Nottingham, U.K., are now accepting applications for the 8th annual European Flavor PhD Research Award & Bursary. The program aims to promote flavor research studies amongst PhD students in Europe.

The program offers two kinds of awards to researchers at the start of their careers. PhD students are encouraged to participate in an annual competition for the best thesis in the flavor area. Innovation will be the key criterion used in order to judge the theses submitted for evaluation. An award of €5,000 will be given to the author of the best thesis. In addition, in order to encourage chemists, biochemists, and other scientists to undertake PhDs in flavor, one-off bursaries of €3,000 each will be awarded to six selected students who are starting PhDs in the flavor area. Applications for both awards are due by Oct. 31, 2017.

Giract has obtained sponsorship from eight companies with business activities in or relating to flavors: Biorigin, DSM Food Specialties, Givaudan, International Flavors & Fragrances, Kerry, Lesaffre International, MCLS Europe, and Nestlé.
