The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will provide an additional 30 days to comment on its request for scientific data, information, and comments to help the agency determine whether certain fibers should be added to the definition of “dietary fiber” published as part of the Nutrition Facts label final rule. The original comment period was set to close on Jan. 9, 2017.

The FDA also plans to provide additional time to comment on its draft guidance entitled “Scientific Evaluation of the Evidence on the Beneficial Physiological Effects of Isolated or Synthetic Non-Digestible Carbohydrates Submitted as a Citizen Petition (21 CFR 10.30).” The comment period, originally set to close Jan. 23, 2017, will be extended so that it ends at the same time as the comment period for the notice referenced above.
