Kraft Heinz announced that its iconic Oscar Mayer brand is making radical changes to its hot dog line, removing added nitrates and nitrites, preservatives, and by-products from the hot dog formulations. The change comes after a year of recipe testing.

Oscar Mayer is America’s most iconic hot dog brand, and, as the equity leader, we felt it was time to take a stand for the love of a better hot dog,” says Greg Guidotti, head of marketing at Oscar Mayer. “We heard from hot dog fans across the country that they wanted a hot dog without artificial preservatives in meat or added nitrates and nitrites—all without compromising on the great Oscar Mayer taste they know and love.”

Oscar Mayer will be promoting these first-to-market changes with a new Wienermobile campaign this summer. The tour will include remote towns outside the contiguous United States thanks to an on-water vehicle departing from New York Harbor, and traditional Wienermobiles will stop at hundreds of events across the country.
