Nestlé Purina PetCare has announced plans to open a factory and distribution center in Hartwell, Ga. The Hartwell site will be Purina’s 21st factory in the United States and the first new American factory in 20 years. The company plans to invest $320 million (CHF 310 million) in the facility between now and 2023. The site, which will create as many as 240 new jobs over the next five years, will help Purina expand capacity and distribution in the Southeast United States.
The investment is in line with Nestlé’s strategy to increasingly focus capital spending on advancing the high-growth food and beverage categories of coffee, petcare, infant nutrition, and bottled water. Distribution center operations are expected to begin in 2018, with production to follow in 2019.
“Our business-friendly climate, highly-skilled workforce, and unmatched logistics infrastructure continue to attract industry-leading manufacturers like Purina to Georgia,” said Georgia Governor Nathan Deal. “With this new facility, Purina will build upon Georgia’s strategic resources while yielding economic benefits for the Hart County community.”
