Meal kit maker Home Chef has opened a new state-of-the art Midwest production facility in Bedford Park, Ill. Founded in 2013, the Chicago-based company also operates production and distribution centers in Atlanta and Los Angeles. The new Bedford Park facility is 103,000 square feet in size and will accommodate 330 employees.
Home Chef’s sales reached about $250 million last year, up from about $100 million a year earlier, Bloomberg reported recently. The company raised $40 million in a private equity funding round last year, according to Bloomberg.
The company offers more recipe options than other leading meal kit makers, and it recently introduced offerings targeted to the lunchtime daypart. The new salad lunch kits can be assembled at home or on the go in about five minutes. Home Chef’s meal kits, most of which can be prepared in about 30 minutes, are available on Walmart’s website in addition to being available directly from the company.
