Despite declines, U.S. independent restaurants account for majority of all restaurant units

While the number of independent restaurant units in the United States dropped by 3%, 346,105 independent restaurants remained opened, which represents more than half of the 647,288 commercial restaurant units in the country, according to The NPD Group’s Fall 2017 ReCount restaurant census.
