Nominations are being accepted for the 2014 IFT Achievement Awards and Fellows.

IFT Achievement Awards recognize individuals and teams for remarkable contributions in research, applications, and service. The IFT Fellow designation is an honor bestowed upon an IFT Professional Member by their peers, recognizing exemplary professionalism in the field of food science.

The deadline to submit nominations for the IFT Achievement Awards is Dec. 31, 2013, and the deadline to submit nominations for the IFT Fellows is Jan. 31, 2014. The winners will be announced and honored at the 2014 IFT Annual Meeting & Food Expo® in New Orleans, La., June 21–24. Freedman to headline Wellness 14
The Institute of Food Technologists announces that David Freedman, Contributing Editor at The Atlantic and Inc. Magazine, will be the General Session speaker at the Wellness 14 conference. Currently, much of what Freedman writes about covers topics of obesity, nutrition, and health-related behavior change. In addition to his work for The Atlantic, he is a contributor to Scientific American and a consulting editor for Johns Hopkins Medicine International. His most recent book, WRONG, discusses the problems with the published findings of scientists and other experts.

The Wellness 14 conference will be held March 20–21, 2014, and the pre-Wellness short course, “Labeling Requirements and Implications for Foods Marketed in the U.S.,” will be held March 18–19, in Chicago, Ill. Campbell Soup hires Barroso
Carlos Barroso recently joined Campbell Soup Co. as Senior Vice President of Global Research & Development.

Barroso, a Professional Member of IFT, has worked in research and development for more than 20 years, has managed his own consulting practice with many Fortune 100 clients, and has held leadership positions in R&D at PepsiCo Foods, including Frito-Lay North America and Quaker Foods. He has a chemical engineering degree from Georgia Institute of Technology.

Bock joins C.W. Brabender
C.W. Brabender® Instruments Inc. has hired Jayne Bock, an expert in food and grain science, to be responsible for furthering the research and development efforts of the Brabender Group with its line of laboratory scale food testing instruments. She will also continue to be active in industry research projects.

Bock is Post-Doctoral Fellow for the Dept. of Food Science at University of Guelph and has authored many articles and presented posters and oral sessions that advance food and grain science. Bock is a Member of IFT.
