2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans
IFT has created a new webpage focused on the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans as a way to share all of the valuable resources related to the 2010 Guidelines that IFT has available. These resources include a recent webcast on Implications of the Guidelines, recent articles in Food Technology magazine, IFT comments to the Advisory Committee, and findings from this Fall’s IFT, ADA, IFIC, and ILSI NA-sponsored Dietary Guidelines Roundtables.

Orange Sweet Potatoes May Address Vitamin A Deficiencies
An article published in the March issue Comprehensive Reviews in Food Science and Food Safety (CRFSFS) discusses how orange sweet potatoes could help prevent vitamin A deficiency in developing countries where this nutritional disease causes over 600,000 deaths per year. According to the author, Betty J. Burri, U.S. Department of Agriculture, in these countries where vitamin A deficiency is common, it would help if the food industry could find ways to increase the production and consumption of orange-fleshed sweet potatoes.
