Soups Fortified with Immunity Boosters
When you’re not feeling well, soup provides soothing comfort and wholesome nourishment. Lassonde Specialties, Saint-Damase, Quebec, Canada, is taking soup’s image even further into the healthful arena with its introduction of three new Canton brand soups fortified with the immune health benefits of Wellmune WGP—a natural beta-glucan ingredient that is clinically proven to enhance the immune system. Biothera, Eagan, Minn., supplies the ingredient, which is GRAS in the United States, Canada, China, and several other countries. The soups, which include vegetable, chicken noodle, and chicken with rice, are part of a contemporary line of Canton soups that is available in 500-mL, aseptic cartons. A 250-mL portion of soup provides 100 mg of beta-glucan Wellmune WPG. A daily consumption of 200 mg of the ingredient activates the key immune cells (neutrophils).
