A Closer Look at Pomegranate
Pomegranate (Punica granatum L.) is an ancient fruit that is widely consumed as fresh fruit and juice. Both in vitro and in vivo studies have demonstrated how this fruit acts as antioxidant, antidiabetic, and hypolipidemic and shows antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, and anticarcinogenic activities. In the November 2010 issue of Comprehensive Reviews in Food Science and Food Safety, researchers from the Universidad Miguel Hernández de Elche explore the functional, medical, and physiological properties of this fruit.
