Billed as the largest gathering of health and nutrition industry professionals focused on dietary supplement, beverage, functional food, personal care, and sports nutrition innovation, the SupplySide West 2018 exhibition and education program will take place Nov. 6–10, 2018, at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. More than 1,300 exhibitors and an extensive educational agenda will attract 16,000-plus attendees.

Among this year’s show highlights will be the Esca Bona pavilion featuring companies that are working to create a good food system. (Esca Bona means “good food” in Latin.) Also on the show floor, SupplySide Central will be the destination for a series of interactive, fast-paced programs on a variety of hot topics. In addition, an array of functional food and beverage product prototypes will be available for viewing and sampling at the Tasting Bar, which is open during show floor hours. Other expo highlights include the Omega-3 Resource Center and the IPA Probiotics Resource Center.

More than 140 hours of educational programming on a broad assortment of topics of relevance to those in the health and nutrition disciplines will be offered at SupplySide West. Among the featured speakers will be a representative of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Office of Dietary Supplements, who will address current trends and topics such as GMP compliance, new dietary ingredient notifications, and Food Safety Modernization Act requirements in a presentation from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8.

A two-hour workshop on Thursday titled “Feeding the Good Food Future” will explore various approaches to feeding the global population in the years ahead, addressing topics that range from natural and organic products to the role of biotechnology in food production. Another workshop that morning will delve into strategies for improving business operations and ethical leadership; it’s titled “Boosting Your ROI: Secrets to Business Success.” Later that day, experts in sports nutrition will discuss “Nutritional Strategies for Exercise Recovery.” Other workshops on Thursday include “Marketing Effectively & Legally Via Social Media” and “Are You Prepared for a FSMA Audit?”

The workshop agenda for Friday, Nov. 9, includes one titled “Blurring Lines of Supplements, Foods, Pharma and More” in which a panel of experts will help bring some clarity to the distinctions regulators make among food, supplements, and drugs. In a workshop titled “Inside the Bottle,” presenters will explore how the supplements category is creating new opportunities for suppliers and manufacturers in the sector. Four additional workshops that day will address topics ranging from formulations to fight anxiety and stress to market opportunities for prebiotics.

Three-hour workshops on Wednesday, Nov. 7, and Saturday, Nov. 10, will bookend the events of Thursday and Friday. Topics for these workshops include, among others, “The New Age of Biotechnology,” “CBD and Hemp Extracts: How Do We Move Forward?” “How Blockchain & Related Technology Is Transforming the Supply Chain,” and “Neurosports: Inside the Brain for Improved Performance.”

Training courses on good manufacturing practices will be offered on Tuesday, Nov. 6, and Wednesday, Nov. 7. The all-day 2018 American Herbal Products Association Botanical Congress on Saturday will be a learning opportunity for those with an interest in topics such as sustainability, sports nutrition, regulatory issues for the botanical market, and more.

Networking opportunities will include breakfast and lunch briefs, the CPG Editor’s Choice Awards, an opening reception, and a first-time attendee reception. Early morning yoga sessions are scheduled on Thursday and Friday.
