Plan to attend Chicago event

Save the date for the 2013 IFT Annual Meeting & Food Expo, the global event that brings together the most respected food professionals in industry, academia, and government. The event will be held July 13–16, 2013, in Chicago.

Tracking U.S. Food Science Students. The number of food science majors continued to climb in 2012. From Opus International, 2010, 2012Attendees will learn about the latest research, product development initiatives, and food industry trends at the Annual Meeting Scientific Program. The 2012 program featured more than 350 presenters, more than 100 education sessions, and more than 1,400 poster presentations. News about these sessions received plenty of media coverage through IFT press releases and media placements. The IFT Food Expo provides the opportunity to interact with representatives from ingredient, processing, and packaging companies, to try food and beverage prototypes, and to view demonstrations of the latest processing and laboratory equipment. Many networking opportunities for seasoned professionals, new professionals, and students as well as the IFT Career Center career fair and formal interviews are scheduled throughout the Annual Meeting & Food Expo.

The Pre-Annual Meeting Short Courses will be held July 12–13, and they will provide practical education on a variety of topics. In addition to several courses that will return, IFT will offer new courses that present a wide array of information to help product developers and other food industry professionals. The topics for the new courses (subject to change without notice) are food biotechnology, nonthermal processing, new applications for soy, antioxidants, and textural design. The Certified Food Scientist Prep Course will also be offered.

MGP appoints Dickerson
MGP has named Pam Dickerson Territory Sales Manager for ingredients. She is responsible for strengthening the relationships of MGP’s existing customers and fostering business between MGP and potential clients.

Dickerson, a Member of IFT, previously worked as an account manager of bakery ingredients for Kerry Ingredients & Flavors. She also held the position of Process Leader for Food Product Development with Target Corp. There, she was responsible for managing the vendor-based development of Target’s private label food products, including creating prototypes, conducting sensory evaluations and quality attribute assessments, leading product team evaluations, and providing technical guidance to vendors.

She earned a B.S. degree in food science and chemistry from Alabama A&M University and an M.S. degree in food science and statistics from University of Minnesota.

Bruce joins Wixon
Wixon has hired Trish Bruce as an account manager. She is responsible for the company’s industrial ingredients sales accounts in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa and works with customers to drive their sales with new product development.

Bruce has 25 years of experience in the food industry working for Appert’s Foodservice as a research and development manager and for Coborn’s Inc. as a nutritionist. She was an instructor at the College of Saint Benedict, St. Joseph, Minn., where she received her B.S. degree in dietetics. She is a Member of IFT.

P.L. Thomas welcomes Hiner
Mary Hiner joins P.L. Thomas as Director of Food/Beverage Business Development. She is responsible for increasing revenues for the food and beverage division by adding new products to the portfolio.

Hiner has many years of experience in the food industry, having held technical, business development, and innovation positions at food and beverage companies. She has extensive experience in working with digestive enzymes, prebiotics, naturally derived colorings, and antioxidants. She is a Member of IFT.

D.D. Williamson promotes Kreder
D.D. Williamson has promoted Greg Kreder to Director of Global Quality. His responsibilities include leading the company on global quality and food safety issues.

Prior to joining the company’s Science and Innovation team four years ago, Kreder worked nearly two decades in research and product development for a global brewing company. Kreder, a Member of IFT, earned his B.S. degree in chemistry from Southern Illinois University.
