Since its inception in 1939, IFT has experienced many changes within its membership and the broader
science of food community. Our longtime members often tell us that throughout their careers, they
have seen a gradual shift which has brought a wide variety of perspectives and experiences to their workplaces and the association.
Our goal is to understand and to serve all members well. To gain a better understanding of the various perspectives, experiences, and needs our members bring
to the organization and profession, IFT began collecting enhanced data regarding demographic
characteristics in 2019. The information gained helps us create data-informed diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging strategies, track our progress,
chart our growth, and transparently report the impact of our value of Inclusion.
