Bioriginal Food & Science Corp. has launched a new cold-pressed borage oil, naturally rich in gamma-linolenic acid (GLA). With 25% GLA, Bioriginal’s borage oil is the highest and only non-GMO source of its kind on the market, setting a new benchmark in plant-based nutrition for people and pets.
The product launch marks the successful culmination of Bioriginal’s proprietary selective breeding program, which was specifically developed to maximize GLA content and crop yields while preserving the plant’s genetic integrity without the use of genetic modification. The resulting seed variety is globally patented, providing Bioriginal with exclusive rights to this high-performing, non-GMO cultivar.
This strategic innovation enables a consistent and potent source of GLA, allowing for reduced dosage requirements, streamlined formulation, and enhanced functional benefits across a wide range of health and wellness applications. For example, GLA is especially valuable in supporting inflammation-related conditions such as arthritis, eczema, psoriasis, allergies, and cardiovascular concerns, including hypertension and stroke risk.

Peptan collagen peptides, developed by Darling Ingredients’ health brand, Rousselot, have achieved the Upcycled Certified status from Where Food Comes From (WFCF). This recognition emphasizes the company’s commitment to sustainability by contributing to a circular and responsible supply chain. The Upcycled Certified Standard by WFCF is the world’s only third-party certification for upcycled food. Designed to combat food waste, it recognizes products that use high-quality, safe ingredients that might otherwise go unused. Peptan collagen peptides exemplify this approach, transforming bovine, porcine, or fish-derived raw materials into a bioactive ingredient with multiple health benefits.
A broad coalition of circular economy stakeholders, led by leading waste-sorting technology provider TOMRA, has called on the European Commission to integrate provisions that support circularity measures under the draft Clean Industrial State Aid Framework (CISAF). Despite being recognized as one of the four pillars of the Clean Industrial Deal, circularity is notably absent from the CISAF’s core provisions. Under TOMRA’s leadership, key figures within the European Union Plastic Recycling Industry and others have joined forces to raise alarm over the European Commission’s draft CISAF, citing a critical lack of support for circularity measures.

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has issued a new patent to Kemin Industries for the first brine containing proteins that is free of salt and phosphates. Brines and marinades are commonly injected or otherwise introduced into food products, including beef, pork, poultry, fish, and plant-based protein products, to retain the moisture level and enhance the flavor of the food product after completion of cooking or other food preparation.
Such brines and marinades often require salt and phosphates in order for the brine to be retained within the food product, but many consumers prefer to avoid those byproducts. Kemin’s new brine can help boost manufacturers’ bottom line with increased yields and extended hold times while delivering a product with improved bite, natural texture, and desirable label claims to attract consumers.ft
