Food Safety Professionals Unite to Address the Toughest Food Challenges in IFT’s Food Safety & Quality Management Division

In celebration of World Food Safety Day, IFT is proud to announce that it has revamped its Quality Management Division where more than 1,500 members collaborate, network, and share ideas around food safety.

CHICAGO – June 7, 2023 – In celebration of World Food Safety Day, the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT), a nonprofit scientific organization committed to advancing the science of food and its application across the global food system, is proud to announce that it has revamped its Quality Management Division where more than 1,500 members collaborate, network, and share ideas around food safety. The Food Safety & Quality Management Division (FSQM) has been renamed to better reflect the overall responsibilities of its members across more than 60 countries who focus on assurance, quality control, food safety, and food wholesomeness.

“As the science of food community recognizes World Food Safety Day today, we celebrate all the disciplines that contribute to making food safe, including the food-safety leaders in the Food Safety & Quality Management Division committed to protecting our global food supply,” said IFT CEO Christie Tarantino-Dean. “While the Food Safety & Quality Management Division will be the recognized primary division for many aspects of food safety, we recognize food safety encompasses many disciplines and our members in the field will also continue to take advantage of the resources in the Food Microbiology Division and the Toxicology & Safety Evaluation Division.”

IFT’s topical, interest-based groups, known as Divisions, support learning, collaboration, and innovation through the sharing of knowledge via webcasts and podcasts, online forums, and in-person events such as IFT FIRST: Annual Event & Expo. In total, there are 25 Divisions spanning the science of food.

“Rebranding to Food Safety & Quality Management Division communicates to the food community that this Division is a home for those interested in food safety,” added Eric Ewert, Chair of IFT’s Food Safety & Quality Management Division.
