CHICAGO – July 11, 2024 – The Institute of Food Technologists (IFT), a nonprofit scientific organization committed to advancing the science of food and its application across the global food system, is pleased to announce that Mehmood A. Khan, MD, Chief Executive Officer at Hevolution Foundation, has been awarded IFT’s Public Health Award in honor of Babcock-Hart & Gilbert A. Leveille, which honors an individual who has provided scientific and technological contributions to improve public health through better nutrition and/or a more nutritious food supply.

To be considered for this award, which is presented in partnership with the Institute for the Advancement of Food and Nutrition Sciences (IAFNS) and the American Society for Nutrition (ASN), nominees’ contributions must result in practical, technological innovation in large-scale food production systems toward a goal of improved public health. Such contributions could be made in any area of food production, food processing, food packaging, storage, and/or distribution. Khan will be honored at the Awards Ceremony & Reception at IFT FIRST: Annual Event and Expo, which is being held July 14-17, 2024, at McCormick Place in Chicago.

Khan joined the Hevolution Foundation, headquartered in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in 2020, where he leads the organization in providing funding to support research and entrepreneurship in the field of healthspan science. Previously, he served as the Chief Executive Officer at Life Biosciences in Boston, Massachusetts, the Vice Chairman & Chief Scientific Officer at PepsiCo in Purchase, New York, and the President of Takeda’s Global Research and Development Center, also in Boston. He’s also served on several boards, including the U.S.-Pakistan Business Council and the Council on Competitiveness.

Khan earned his medical degree from the University of Liverpool Medical School in Liverpool, England, before completing his fellowship in clinical endocrinology and nutrition at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Khan is a member of the Nutmeg Section of IFT and resides in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
