CHICAGO – June 25, 2024 – The Institute of Food Technologists (IFT), a nonprofit scientific organization committed to advancing the science of food and its application across the global food system, is pleased to announce that Hyun Jin Park, PhD, Distinguished Professor at Korea University, has been awarded IFT’s Food Packaging Award in honor of Don Riester, Rees Davis, and Aaron Brody, which honors an individual who has provided lifetime contributions to innovation in food packaging technology.

To be considered for this award, individuals must demonstrate scientific ideas applied in practice to advance food packaging. Park will be honored at the Awards Ceremony & Reception at IFT FIRST: Annual Event and Expo, which is being held July 14-17, 2024, at McCormick Place in Chicago.

Park joined Korea University in Seoul, South Korea, in 1997, where he serves as a Distinguished Professor in the Biotechnology Department and as the Director of the Functional Food Research Center. His research focuses on nanoscale science in functional food, food packaging, and food processing. He also serves as an Adjunct Professor at Clemson University in Clemson, South Carolina. In 2017, he became the 37th President of the Korean Society of Food Science and Technology. He also serves as the Chairman of the Division of Agriculture and Fisheries at the Korean Academy of Science and Technology.

To date, Park has published over 300 scientific papers. In addition to being an Achievement Award winner, he was also named an IFT Fellow in 2015. Park resides in Seoul.
