UNSW Sydney’s Cordelia Selomulya Named 2024 IFT Fellow, One of the Highest Honors in the Science of Food Community

The Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) is pleased to announce that Cordelia Selomulya, PhD, Associate Dean (Research) at the Faculty of Engineering, University of New South Wales (UNSW) Sydney, has been selected as a 2024 IFT Fellow, one of the highest honors bestowed upon a member of the science of food community.

CHICAGO – May 23, 2024 – The Institute of Food Technologists (IFT), a nonprofit scientific organization with global members spanning academia, government, and industry, is pleased to announce that Cordelia Selomulya, PhD, Associate Dean (Research) at the Faculty of Engineering, University of New South Wales (UNSW) Sydney, has been selected as a 2024 IFT Fellow, one of the highest honors bestowed upon a member of the science of food community. Being recognized as an IFT Fellow is a unique professional distinction given to an IFT member who has achieved career excellence in addition to providing significant service and leadership to both IFT and the science of food profession.

Specifically, all nominees must demonstrate professional leadership through leading conferences, presentations, and other training and development programs; service and leadership to external advisory committees or boards; ongoing volunteer service to IFT; honors, awards, and other recognition within the science of food profession, as well as advancements to the science of food in industry, academia, government, or related organizations.

This year’s IFT Fellows will be celebrated at the Fellows Recognition Forum at IFT FIRST: Annual Event and Expo, which is being held July 14-17, 2024, at McCormick Place in Chicago. Only 10 IFT members out of more 11,000 received this prestigious recognition this year.

“IFT has helped significantly expand my international networks in the global food community, both in academia and industry,” said Selomulya. “I am looking forward to working closely with IFT and contributing more to the profession.”

Selomulya joined USNW in 2019, beginning as a Professor (Food & Health) before being promoted to the Associate Dean of Research in the Faculty of Engineering. She has also worked as the Research and Commercialisation Director at Future Food Systems CRC since 2019. Before coming to USNW, she spent over 13 years at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia, beginning as a Lecturer and serving in roles of increasing responsibility until she became an ARC Future Fellow in addition to her role as the director of Graduate Research Industry Partnership (GRIP) for the Food and Dairy industry. In addition to her election as an IFT Fellow, she is also a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering (ATSE) and a Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE).

Before teaching at USNW, Selomulya received her Bachelor of Engineering degree and PhD in Chemical Engineering from the school. She is a member of the Dairy Foods Division of IFT, and currently resides in Kensington, New South Wales, Australia.
