University of Massachusetts Amherst’s Matthew Moore Honored with IFT’s Outstanding Young Scientist Award

The Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) is pleased to announce that Matthew Moore, PhD, Assistant Professor at University of Massachusetts Amherst, has been awarded IFT’s Outstanding Young Scientist Award in honor of Samuel Cate Prescott, which honors an individual who has provided significant, early-career research contributions that advance the science of food.

CHICAGO – July 10, 2024 – The Institute of Food Technologists (IFT), a nonprofit scientific organization committed to advancing the science of food and its application across the global food system, is pleased to announce that Matthew Moore, PhD, Assistant Professor at University of Massachusetts Amherst, has been awarded IFT’s Outstanding Young Scientist Award in honor of Samuel Cate Prescott, which honors an individual who has provided significant, early-career research contributions that advance the science of food.

To be considered for this award, individuals must have received their highest degree within the previous ten years. Examples of significant contributions include, but are not limited to, new methodologies/processes, competencies, manuscripts, patents, transferred technologies, and commercial products. Moore will be honored at the Awards Ceremony & Reception at IFT FIRST: Annual Event and Expo, which is being held July 14-17, 2024, at McCormick Place in Chicago.

Moore joined the University of Massachusetts Amherst as an Assistant Professor in 2018, where he researches food safety microbiology with a focus on foodborne viruses. Prior to his current role, he served as an Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) fellow at the Applied Research Unit of the National Antimicrobial Resistance Monitoring System.

Moore received his undergraduate degree in Food Science from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, before earning his PhD in the same subject from North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina. He is a member of IFT’s Biotechnology Division and Northeast Section. Moore resides in Amherst, Massachusetts.
